Transforming a former school site into a new neighbourhood

Heathmont Place

Key facts

Project area: 3.6 hectares
Residences: 66 townhouses
Development value: $40 million

The closure of Heathmont College in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs left the 3.6 hectare former school site vacant for almost a decade.

Places Victoria purchased the site to create a new neighbourhood offering a diversity of housing among established suburbs close to schools, public transport, shops and services.

Building a community

Heathmont Place is an urban infill project combining quality design with housing choice.

Construction at Heathmont Place began in 2012 and the estate is currently home to about 50 residents. The estate will include 66 townhouses set among three parks upon completion.

The master plan for Heathmont Place was created by Australian Institute of Architects gold medal winner Graeme Gunn.

Heathmont Place is a sustainable neighbourhood including:

  • Homes designed to capture sunlight and views
  • Walking paths throughout the estate
  • Six star energy efficient homes
